The 5 Asian leaders have signed on to sleep in the cold for 1 night to experience what it is like to be homeless and living in the streets of Perth. They will only be able to have a blanket and cardboard provided by the organisers.

They have a bread roll and soup for the night to sustain them.

Raymond Tan has been sleeping out as a homeless lawyer for 5 years taking part every year since the event started. This year he has persuaded the other 4 Asian leaders to join him in a night of discomfort, cold and maybe wet rain so that the homeless in WA can be helped from their fundraising.

This is the first year that there are so many Asian CEOs taking part and they should be supported as much as possible.
Here’s how your donation can help:
您的捐款可以发挥如下作用:
  • $50 can provide a meal and educational resource for a disadvantaged child.
  • $100 can help ensure a family keeps its power on this winter.
  • $200 provides emergency accommodation and food to a family in crisis.
  • $500 could relocate and establish a homeless person into one of the Society’s homeless accommodation services.
  • $1,000 would pay the rent for a family facing eviction from their home.

It is time for the Asian community to get behind this worthwhile project to help those less fortunate than themselves.

My 5th year sleeping as a homeless lawyer

Dear friends

Yes, it is that time again when I brave the cold. I am sleeping as a homeless lawyer for the 5th time on 19 June 2014. Yes this is the 5th time I am sleeping out.

I will be one of the handful of CEOs who have done it for 5 years in a row.

This year, I managed to persuade 4 other Chinese leaders of industry to take part with me. They have no idea what they are in for and I am laughing all the way to the sleepout.

Pan who is in the health goods industry has decided to join me.  He is actually leading me in the donation stakes but I am trying my best to catch up with him at $11,000 while I am at $8000.

Shen, who is my golfing mate and owner of Mozart Patisserie is behind me at nearly $2500.

Wing from OmniDesign and Zheng from Nishi Sushi are trailing at the $500 mark.

It does not matter how much they raise. The important issue is that they are highlighting the homeless problem to the Asian community.

I wish them the best in their fund raising.

Meanwhile, if you have considered the plight of the homeless and wish to donate, just go to http://www.ceosleepout.org.au/ceos/wa-ceos/raymond-tan to donate.

I have just been told that Andrew Forrest of FMG will donate a further $5000 to my credit if I raise $10,000 and $10,000 if I raise $20,000. Here's to hard work to raise more funds for the homeless.

Night.

My eldest son turning 18 years of age

Dear friends and readers

It has been quite a while since I blogged on my Perth Asian Lawyer website. I have been blogging more on the Under 17s Badminton State team and the Aus Chinese Golf Association blog.

Today, or is it tonight or this early morning as it is 15 May 2014 at 1.20 am. I am sitting with my eldest son Jazton Tan who just turned 18 years of age 1 hr ago.

We are sharing alcoholic drinks as he is finally able to have a drink with his old man.

We started off with Bacardi and Coke. He did not really like the taste.

We are now having a glass of Kahlua and ice. He does seem impartial to the drink.

I am glad he is not that interested in alcohol.

We are having a birthday dinner tomorrow.

What have I got to say to my 18 year old son?

That he has given me so much joy from the day he was born. That I often laugh with him as we are so similar.

That I enjoy the times we both walk together on the golf course, irregardless of the scores we are hitting although he usually beats me now. Just like when he first beat me at badminton and then golf.

That is enough to make a dad proud.

To my son Jazton, I love you. However, the car that you dream of may not be the car you will get.

From dad.

Chinese New year at Tan and Tan Lawyers

Dear friends

Yes, we are now enjoying the year of the horse. The year is trotting ahead and we are in Feb already celebrating the Chinese New year.

As we have done for many years, the office had the Lion Dance celebrations with guest enjoying themselves.

Here are some photos and a video.

Beijing Tour to improve my Mandarin

Dear friends

I managed to bring my family to Beijing for a tour just before the new year. It was an eye opener.

The family managed to climb the great wall despite it being winter.

Highlights included visiting Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City.

The boys stayed back for another 21 days at Shishahai Sports Academy for badminton training with the Beijing Team.

Here are some photos from the trip.

The family's last meal together in Beijing. It was an Italian restaurant as the boys missed western food.

It was an interesting trip and a must do one to find my roots.

Will update you all later.

The end of year office party

Dear friends

It has become a tradition for the office to have an end of year semi sporting affair. Last year we had a paintball shootout. A few of the staff still remember their bruises.

This year it was up to Melanie and Meliana to organise the end of year affair.

They decided on The Running Man. Apparently this is a Korean reality TV show where the contestant pit their strength and brains against each other in a team.

The day started with the office being split into green and red teams.

The first game was dodgeball in the park. I was in the red team and we managed a quick 3 sets win against the green team.

We then broke for lunch before going back to the park for a game of tearing each player's name tags from the backs of  the other player. The boys had a go first and the players put on a good fight to stop their tags from being snatched.

Victor was attacked by 3 players but kept his tag.

The next game was between the girls. They had 4 players to a team. Flora who is Junior's partner was in the green team. She had appeared quite shy at the beginning. Junior provides our office IT support and is part of the Tan and Tan team.

When the game started, we saw a different side of the girls on the office. They were going limb for limb with no one holding back. Flora was all aggro to my surprise. Even Annie got into the act aggresively.

The boys joked that we should set the girls on our bad debtors to show how serious they are.

The next game was a contest on how many songs we could sing based on categories suggested by Mel and Mel. It was good to see the team bond.

The day ended with dinner at a Japanese restaurant at Ascot.

It was great to see the team bond. I thanked everyone for their great work during the year.

I am sure they will all continue to excel next year.

The question is what are we going to do next year to celebrate. Bungy jumping maybe?
